The 2010 internship program will be a continuation of work done in 2009 by an incredible intern crew! Planning for the 2010 season is now underway!
During the 2009 building season, the timberframe addition has gone from a simple foundation to a fully enclosed strawbale home complete with finish ceilings! The project has come along wonderfully, and lots of natural building styles are being employed in the construction. Work has begun on lime plaster, light clay straw infill, an earthen subfloor, and earthen plaster, heating, plumbing, and electrical systems are ready to be installed.
Internship positions are available for the 2010 building season beginning in early April. Applications are currently being accepted. Minimum commitment is two months.
We're looking for interns to have some previous construction experience, an interest in working as part of a construction team, a willingness to work around children, and an ability to communicate openly and honestly.
Areas of focus will include interior walls, finish plasters, wood joinery, finish floors, an outdoor kitchen, an outdoor hot tub, greywater system, landscaping, organic garden preparation, deck and porch construction, and other such sundry items. We'll also be focusing a lot of attention on adding artistic beauty to the home in a variety of ways.
If you have additional experience in interior, furniture, and landscaping design, natural building, sculpture or open fire pottery, greywater systems, water resource management, architectural engineering, heating systems, or construction management, please let us know, as those skills would come in handy!. Other practical skills which we'd benefit from include management skills, CAD knowledge, and a keen interest in experiential building design.
